Assessment
The first consultation will usually last about 40 minutes. This
will involve discussing your medical history relevant to the
presenting problem and answering questions based on your life
style, for example, any sports you do, what kind of job you
have, i.e. desk based and any other activities or hobbies you
have,
i.e. gardening that may impact your body. Once a case history
has been taken, a physical assessment will be conducted taking
into account the structure and mobility of the spine and body.
Once the cause of pain has been identified, treatment will
commence. This may be as a single treatment, a course of
treatment or ongoing maintenance. Your
Osteopath will discuss the options with you and the reason for the treatment.
Treatment
Osteopaths work with their
hands, using treatments from manipulation to massage. This is
to ease and mobilise muscles, joints and
ligaments to realign the
body. The treatment is tailored to the individual. Please remember to
wear appropriate
clothes to make treatment possible.
The patient will be treated lying
down, either on their front, side or back, depending on the problem.
The Osteopath will manipulate the area
required
to help realign the spine and relax the surrounding tissue.
